Reviews for CHURCHILL'S FISH & CHIPS RAWRETH, RAYLEIGH

I’m absolutely sure they count the chips to see how few they can get away with! Portion sizes always smaller than you would expect from other fish and chip shops, so just be aware. I ordered a medium cod a couple of weeks ago and got a small one. Last week (I know, glutton for punishment) I ordered a large cod and got a medium one. Won’t be going again, enough is enough. If I ordered a small cod I’d probably get a fish finger
And stop cutting and pasting replies to customers. Either do it properly or if you simply can’t be bothered, which is what it seems, then don’t reply at all

Absolute scam! Sent my children in to get 2 portions of chips. £10.00! It took around 15 minutes to get and when we got home to eat, they were tiny! The chips were soggy and tasted of nothing. We asked for salt and vinegar, but we were met with nothing. No sauces either. Never going here again, would rather go to Harley’s Fish And Chips in Hockley.

Unfortunately our usual favourite fish and chips shop was closed so went here as it always used to be a good second choice. But not no more. Large chips is not large at all, medium cod as pictured, total order £37... 2 medium cod, large chips, 2 savs, special fish cake... not coming back. (Oh and no cod roe)

The picture doesn’t do it justice but the actual chip size were so small. They didn’t look or taste like proper traditional “chippy chips”. I seemed to have got the bottom of the barrel serving with all the crispy burnt bits.
This is half a portion of a large - for us I think the portion size is fine.

£4.89 for a "large" portion of chips that is definitely a small by other chip shop standards. The portions was smaller than my hand so disappointed. This is our local chip shop and definitely going to look somewhere else. I don't think this is fair.

£13.28 for this!! SHOCKING!! I’m never normally a person to complain and feel uncomfortable even writing this but what a joke. This clearly isn’t a full portion of chips! Not only is there next to no food for the price but it was freezing cold (and I live a 2 minute drive away for the Rayleigh store) and not even fresh! I have had it before about a year ago and had exactly the same problem, seeing as it was so long ago I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried again….. it’s safe to say I definitely won’t be going back.

Regulars here, 8 out of 10 times the chips are great. Like any chippy at certain times of the year the chips are nasty. We have noticed the portion sizes getting smaller and smaller. I know everyone is being squeezed but it's never nice to open up your expensive treat to find the box hasn't even been filled up. The photo is of 'large' chips 🤔😕, bought with a pot of mushy peas totaling £7.40 😦

June 2023. Sunday 8pm. Was really looking forward to some tasty chips. The shop is full of 'awards' they've won on the wall. Red Tractor stuff, signs on how best they are. Unfortunately when staff serve you up the dregs, it just goes in the bin! Not good enough. Ripping customers off. UPDATE. August 2023. Gave these another try. Added another photo here. Small bits of chips and cold. That's it, never again. URGH. Can't eat it. Cold. Waste of money.

Visited Churchill’s Fish and chips at Asda Rayleigh on Thursday evening around 7pm 10/08/23 on way home from work. Not been here before as normally buy from High Street. Rayleigh.
Really disappointed with the cleanliness of the place see attached photos. Dust everywhere, old fat stain on outside of counter. The drinks cooler glass was really dirty looked like it was not cleaned for some time. The photo frames in wall and glass were really dirty also. The chips were hard and dry, the saveloy was a bit iffy as well. The scampi my son had was alright. The 2 young men behind the counter were pleasant enough. The floor could do with a clean and a sweep.bust and dirt everywhere. The entrance doors glass were covered with hand prints and fingers marks. Could do with a really good clean up. Not a good advert when serving prestigious fish and chips. Sorry to complain but feedback of any sort good or bad is the only way a business can be judged. Just really disappointed with my visit and my food to this branch of Churchills. I must stress this is the only branch of this chain that I have had reason to complain about.

A good menu selection from gourmet burgers, fish, ribs , sausages, chickens, etc and the staff are always very friendly and polite but what really let's this place down is how ridiculously expensive it is , very very high prices from £3 for a basic portion of chips!! , to feed a family from this place would definitely burn holes in your pockets..and as other reviews state chips quality definitely vary every time, from small portions, soggy mushy chips , small sharp hard chips , all in all much better establishments locally offering better prices and better quality of product
